Nevertheless I live with three Rhodesian Ridgebacks and sleep on the floor with them or the couch
depending on how much room they leave me. They really whine a lot if they don't get to at least start the
night next to me. The three year old is really a baby and wants to be next to me all the time. But they
are big dogs for a total of about 270 pounds on twelve legs when it comes to walking them. Like all
sight hounds they desperately want to chase something and because we live in the city most anything that
moves is suitable to chase. Wolf Hounds and Great Danes are big dogs that in spite of their size do better
in the city because they are more content to be couch potatoes. At the off leash dog park they
almost never get involved in a fight except that some Great Danes can be aggressive toward other
Great Danes. I have never seen a Wolf Hound bothered by another dog of any breed. The heavy
stocky breeds with more fur do well in the city also as they seem more able to tolerate inactivity
except Malamutes and the like. You see a lot of them but unless they can sleep outside and have
access to the house through a dog door they really should not be considered. They really do need a
lot of cold weather to be happy and regardless of what Jack London said about 40 degrees below zero
these dogs love 40 below and will play outside all day in it.
